Terms of use

These terms cover your use of hatbench.com ("HatBench"), operated by Insureaze Insurance Solutions, LLC ("Insureaze", "we", "us"). By using HatBench you agree to them.

What HatBench is

HatBench is an introduction service. General contractors tell us what they need; we may introduce them to subcontractors who have opted in. We are not a contractor, we don't perform or supervise any work, and we aren't a party to any agreement between a GC and a sub.

HatBench also offers free tools and information: Sub Check, which shows public CSLB license records, and trade pages and guides. These are informational only. Using them doesn't make you a client of Insureaze or create any insurance or advisory relationship.

What "verified" means

When we show a "Verified by Insureaze" badge or say a license or policy was checked, we mean that on the date shown: the sub's CSLB license status was as stated, and the listed policies were in force through the dates shown, based on CSLB records and our records as an insurance agency. Coverage can change or be cancelled after we check. It is not a rating, recommendation or promise about anyone's work, finances, safety or performance.

Sub Check and CSLB data

• Where it comes from. Sub Check shows records from the Contractors State License Board's public data files. It is not Insureaze's records, and it doesn't show the "Verified by Insureaze" badge or any coverage we've confirmed.
• Dates. Each result shows the date we downloaded the CSLB data we used. CSLB updates its records continually, and a license or workers' comp policy can change, lapse or be cancelled after that date. For live status, use CSLB's Instant License Check at cslb.ca.gov.
• What it doesn't cover. CSLB records don't include general liability insurance for most contractors, and they don't tell you about the quality of anyone's work. Ask for a current certificate of insurance naming you before work starts.
• No endorsement. A result, including an "Active" status, isn't a rating, recommendation or approval of any contractor by HatBench or Insureaze. A license that doesn't appear, or shows another status, isn't an accusation either; check the official record.
• We may be wrong or out of date. We copy CSLB's data as published and may make mistakes copying it. If our result and CSLB's site disagree, CSLB's site controls.
• Fair use. Sub Check is for checking contractors you're actually considering. Don't use automated tools, run checks in bulk, or try to copy or rebuild the data set. We limit how many checks can be run, and we may block anyone who gets around those limits.

Trade pages and guides

HatBench's trade pages and guides are general information for California contractors, current as of the date shown on each page. They aren't legal, insurance or tax advice, and they don't cover every situation. Rules and CSLB requirements change, so check the official source linked on the page, and talk to a lawyer, your insurance professional or CSLB about your own situation. Seeing a trade page doesn't mean HatBench has subs available in that trade or area.

Your responsibilities

• GCs: do your own checks before hiring, including getting a current certificate of insurance naming you, confirming the license yourself on cslb.ca.gov if you rely on it, including any license you looked up in Sub Check, and checking references, bids and scope.
• Subs: keep the information you share accurate, and tell us if your license or coverage changes.
• Everyone: give accurate information, use HatBench only for real job requests, and don't scrape, spam, or try to get at information that isn't meant for you. Don't share private match links publicly.

No warranties

HatBench is provided "as is." We don't promise that a match will be found, that any sub will be available, or that the site will always be up. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all implied warranties.

Limits on our liability

To the extent the law allows, Insureaze isn't liable for the work, conduct, or payment disputes of any GC or sub, or for indirect or consequential losses from using HatBench. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited under California law.

Insurance services

HatBench itself doesn't sell insurance. Any insurance services from Insureaze are provided separately under Insureaze's agency license and the terms of those policies.

Changes, ending access, and law

We may change HatBench or these terms; changes take effect when posted here. We may stop providing HatBench to anyone who misuses it. California law governs these terms.
